Two farmers are at logger-heads. Mr Gribbins has just put up a new fence to keep in his bullocks and pony when Mr Green installs a bird-scarer next door, to protect his cabbages. Should Mr Jones have warned Mr Gribbins about it? - because the first time it goes off BANG, the pony and cattle take fright, one of the bullocks breaks down the new fence and in a few moments they are all in the next field eating Mr Jones's cabbages. ' - When the next bang went off a few moments later she [the pony] didn't even look up from her munching.' A trespasser, caravanners, a scarecrow and a thieving magpie, two flocks of geese, and the annual Farmers' Show provide incident and amusement in this tale of life in the Yorkshire Dales. |
