Synopsis: |
Volume 4 of Legalised Mischief is, like the 3 earlier volumes, a highly informative history of the UK Scout Movement. Whilst adopting a no-nonsense approach, being very objective, the book still manages to be both interesting and entertaining. As with the earlier volumes, it contains real first-hand accounts from those who took part in rallies and jamborees small and big, or who saw major events and changes occur. Most notably, volume 4 has a chapter (with good supporting photographs)on the evolution of camping; another chapter - about the only published source available - chronicles the 1966 'Advance Party Report'. This, occurring after the death of Scouting's founder, saw wholesale changes to the uniform, terminology and training. It makes a revealing read! |
