Synopsis: |
Songs have been created in English for hundreds of years. And for most of that time, there has been a tradition of 'Protesting Songs' in our language. The cult of 'Protest' was most noticeable in the 1960s's, but, as Jane and Mike show, in their new book, that area of singing and songwriting has been going on for a long time, and continues, right up to the present day. Mike shows off some of his knowledge by talking about the history and then Jane shows her skill in constructing songs in the here-and-now. (Many of her lyrics are included, and there are links to where recorded versions of those pieces can be found, on the internet.) There is an e-book version of this book already in internet bookshops, and a CD is being issued to accompany the work, which will include recent recordings of many of the tunes mentioned. |
