Synopsis: |
The tremendous changes in technology over past years have resulted in a broader definition of the field and an expanded role of technology in education. This, in turn, has caused educators to reconsider their own roles. This yearbook aims to help educators and media professionals keep abreast of such changes in the field, and by documenting trends, issues, innovations and research findings, it should also be a useful reference tool for the profession. With the same format as previous volumes, this book contains sections devoted to "Trends and Issues, "The Profession", "Current Developments", "The Year in Review", "Leadership Profiles" (Donald P. Ely, Dr James Okey and Constance Dorothea Weinman), "Organizations and Associations in North America", "Graduate Programmes", and a "Mediagraphy" of print and nonprint resources. Within these sections, prominent specialists in the field, such as Robert F. Berkowitz, Michael B. Eisenberg and Anna Maria D. Lankes, discuss developments and offer practical information to professionals dealing with those changes. For example, Charles Reigeluth and Laurie Miller Nelson suggest a new paradigm of instructional systems design. Some of the perspectives offered in this book may challenge the comfort zones of educational media and technology professionals, but they will also stimulate discussion and review. Essential to educational media and technology specialists in schools, colleges and universities, this annual publication is also useful to trainers in the corporate sector and professionals in communications, instructional design and consulting, computer technology, and library and information science. |
