Synopsis: "Love Jessica", that's what Leah finds on the back of a love letter to her sister - but who is this Jessica? When more letters, flowers and gifts start popping up, Leah goes undercover to discover her sister's secret. What she doesn't expect is to find love of her own, and in some very unexpected places! "Steady Beat" is a story about growing up. Leah's sister, Sarai has always been the 'perfect' daughter in their family, allowing Leah to be anything but. Leah never does her homework, she doesn't listen to her parents, she generally does what she wants, despite her mother's protests. However, one day Leah discovers a love letter addressed to her sister from a woman. The flowers, then gifts start popping up all over. Leah finds herself on the hunt to discover this secret paramour's identity. What Leah doesn't expect is to run into Elijah, a wealthy young man from a neighboring private school. He's lost in a cycle dealing with his family's expectations when all he dreams of is singing. Pulling him into her hunt to discover her sister's 'secret identity,' Leah shows Elijah what it means to not always have to live up to everybody else's expectations...and that sometimes, you just have to take risks. However, Leah has motives of her own. Terrified that her parents will start cracking down on her if they discover that their eldest daughter is no longer their vision of perfection, Leah is determined to learn the truth...and hide it if she must. She'll do anything to make sure her parents never find out, even if it means trying to convince Elijah to help her 'change' her sister, but he doesn't take that suggestion very well, yells at Leah and breaks of further communication with her. He doesn't think it's right for Sarai to have to hide who she is and calls Leah a hypocrite. Upset and desperate to keep things the way she thinks they should be, Leah recruits her old neighbor and childhood playmate, Michael, to help out. However, when he tries to make the moves on her-resulting in her kicking him by reflex and knocking him out-she ends up at the hospital, checking him in...and running into Elijah who is there, helping his father out. In tears, Leah turns away from him, apologizing for the way she acted.Hearing her admit to her own folly makes Elijah start to see her in a different light, but before he can say anything and apologize for his own actions, he has a call to help his father. Hastily writing an address down on a piece of paper, he hands it to Leah and tells her to meet him there on Friday at 9 o'clock so they can talk. He runs off. As he's running off, he looks back over his shoulder, at Leah staring at the note in her hand.
