Craft in Motion: Iris Folding uses the revolutionary Craft in Motion system of displaying movement on the page to demonstrate in flowing sequences how to create beautiful craft works using the relatively new craft of iris folding in which paper or fabric strips are laid down in order around an aperture to create the illusion of looking at the iris of a camera. The technique is generally used for card making, but the basic principles can be applied to other artefacts. Iris folding is a truly 21st century craft, developed in Holland around the millennium. It started off when office workers realized the enormous recycling potential of business envelopes and set about using the interiors of the envelopes decoratively to make greetings cards. In iris folding strips of paper - and now fabric too - are stuck in order around an aperture, leaving a small centre into which a decorative device, such as a hologram can be inserted. Following expert advice on ideal tools and materials for beginners, the basic techniques of iris folding are introduced. These techniques and possibilities are then brought together in the projects - six in all.These range from a simple greetings cards for all occasions, through to how to design scrapbook pages, including iris techniques. |
