Words are insufficient to describe the excitement of a covey of grouse flying towards the butt, but the artist can portray that moment that raises the heartbeat of the sportsman and creates an empathy between them. Although predominantly concerned with red grouse, this book also covers the black grouse, capercaillie and ptarmigan. Whilst brief natural history notes for each species are included, the book is first and foremost an insight into how each artist approaches his subject.
