Von 1996-2000 errichteten die Architekten Herzog & de Meuron fur den Roche-Konzern in Basel ein neues Forschungsgebaude samt Bibliothek, Auditorium und Cafe. An der Schnittstelle zwischen Werkareal und Stadtraum gelegen, mit einem Nutzungskonzept, das einen abgeschlossenen Labortrakt mit offentlich zuganglichen Bereichen verbindet, bildete diese Bauaufgabe einen idealen Ausgangspunkt fur eine interdisziplinare Losung. "Der Kunstler mischt sich in die Probleme des Architekten oder Urbanisten ein, und der Architekt interessiert sich fur jene des Kunstlers. Einzig das sich entwickelnde Projekt zahlt." (Remy Zaugg) Die vorliegende Publikation dokumentiert die Genese des Projektes bis hin zum fertigen Bauwerk mit Texten, Skizzen, Planen und Fotos. Es entstand dabei weit mehr als eine blosse Werkmonografie - es ist der faszinierende und authentische Einblick in die schopferische Werkstatt von fruchtbar zusammenwirkenden Kunstlern. |
