Synopsis: |
Ellsworth Kelly, now more than eighty-five years old, reminisces with great enthusiasm and not a hint of nostalgia on his life, his work and encounters and experiences with teachers and colleagues. These include Max Beckmann, Brancusi, Leger and Vantongerloo, whom he visited weekly while in Paris in order to watch him paint. Central to the book is a series of painted-over and collaged postcards dating from 1949-1984, which Kelly has released for publication for the first time. By means of these recollections he discusses his artistic credo and development of an artistic manifesto. He talks about his interest in architecture, about the painters who influenced him and his proposal for the Ground Zero site. It is the positive spirit of this great maverick of art that makes this small book a huge literary journey. |
