This publication provides an overview of domestic resource mobilization for development and for microfinance systems in Asia and the Pacific. The theme is adopted from the International Conference on Financing for Development held at Monterrey, Mexico, in March 2002. It reviews country cases in banking and microfinance, in order to share the country experiences and provide guidance to policy makers. County studies on the banking sector focus on China, India, and Thailand, while those on microfinance cover Bangladesh, the Philippines and the Republic of Korea, In all of these countries the banking sector is the primary source of domestic resource mobilization for development. |
