Description: |
Collection of five films starring the legendary actor. In 'Hell is for Heroes' (1962), recently demoted from staff sergeant to private, Reese (McQueen) is sent to join the war-weary unit positioned on the Siegfried Line in Belgium. He is soon persuading his sergeant (Harry Guardino) to make the Germans believe that the small unit is larger than it is. Reese knows that they can only fool the Germans for a short while, and after the unit is told to hold on for reinforcements, he takes the decision to lead an attack without waiting. 'The Reivers' (1969) is a coming-of-age drama based on William Faulkner's last novel. Mitch Vogel stars as Lucius McCaslin, a spirited 11-year-old boy growing up in Mississippi at the beginning of the 20th century. When he is befriended by lovable rogue farm hand Boon Hoggenbeck (McQueen), he finds himself caught up in various adventures, including defending the madame of a bordello, Corrie (Sharon Farrell), and training up a broken-down racehorse. 'Nevada Smith' (1966) is a Western based on the character from the Harold Robbins novel 'The Carpet Baggers'. The film tells the story of a man's revenge on the three outlaws who killed his parents. McQueen takes the title role. In 'The Hunter' (1980), McQueen (in his last role) plays Ralph 'Papa' Thorson, a real, modern-day bounty hunter, who tracks down bail jumpers using whatever methods he deems neccessary. However, the tables are turned when he finds himself being hunted down by a vengeful psychopath. Finally, in 'Le Mans' (1971), McQueen stars as a racing driver forcing himself back to the scene of a previous accident. Having been seriously injured in the Le Mans race the previous year, Michael Delaney (McQueen) starts a tentative relationship with the widow of another driver killed in that same accident, while forcing himself to compete one last time. |
