In 'Plough Your Own Furrow' Tom Good (Richard Briers) and his wife Barbara (Felicity Kendal) decide to have a go at self sufficiency when they tire of the suburban rat race. 'Say Little Hen...' sees the Goods stocking up their back garden with fowl, while well-meaning neighbours Jerry (Paul Eddington) and Margo Leadbetter (Penelope Keith) attempt to persuade them to start living a normal life again. 'The Weaker Sex?' has Barbara start questioning her new lifestyle when Tom acquires a range for the kitchen. 'Pig's Lib' finds Tom and Barbara the proud owners of some new pigs. 'The Thing in the Cellar' sees Tom proudly showing off his new electrical generator to Jerry - but how long will it stay functional? In 'The Pagan Rite' Tom is tempted by the offer of a one-off job in order to help pay the mounting bills. 'Just My Bill' finds Tom and Barbara still struggling to pay the bills after harvesting their first crop. 'The Guru of Surbiton' has Tom hailed as a modern messiah by two easily impressed young students. 'Mr Fix-It' sees the Goods become the subject of a newspaper article - much to the envy of neighbour Margo. In 'The Day Peace Broke Out' Tom finds himself facing a prison sentence after using his air pistol to shoot a man he caught stealing his leaks. 'Going to Pot?' sees Tom turn his pottery evening class into a cottage industry. In 'The Early Birds' Tom and Barbara's attempt to rise with the sun does not go down well with Margo and Jerry. 'The Happy Event' has the Leadbetters come to the Goods' aid when their pig goes into labour and the litter includes a runt. 'A Tug of the Forelock' finds Tom and Barbara cleaning and gardening for Margo in order to earn some extra cash. In 'I Talk to the Trees' Tom and Barbara decide to conduct a scientific experiment on their plantlife. 'Whose Fleas are These?' sees Margo and Jerry horrified when the Good household becomes plagued by fleas. 'The Posh Frock' finds Barbara feeling dowdy when her glamorous schoolfriend comes to dinner. 'Away From It All' has Jerry and Margo agree to look after the livestock when Tom and Barbara go on holiday. In 'The Green Door' Tom and Barbara become suspicious that Margo might be seeing another man. 'Our Speaker Today' sees Barbara become successful as a public speaker. 'The Weaver's Tale' finds Tom doing his best to persuade his neighbours to buy a spinning wheel. In 'Suit Yourself' Tom and Barbara try their hand at making their own clothes. 'Sweet and Sour Charity' has Margo take umbrage at a local production of 'Sweet Charity'. 'Anniversary' sees Margo install a new security alarm. 'When I'm 65' finds Tom and Barbara concerned about what will become of them in their old age. In 'Backs to the Wall' Tom puts his back out just as the harvest is ready to begin. 'The Wind-Break War' sees Tom and Barbara fall out with Margo. Finally, in 'Silly But it's Fun', the Goods invite the Leadbetters round for Christmas dinner.
