Description: |
Triple bill of comedy dramas. 'Twelfth Night' (1996) is an adaptation of Shakespeare's comedy of errors. Twins, Viola (Imogen Stubbs) and Sebastian (Steven Mackintosh), are shipwrecked on the coast of Illyria and separated, each believing the other dead. Viola disguises herself as a man, and soon Sebastian is being mistaken for her and vice versa. Matters are complicated when the beautiful Olivia (Helena Bonham Carter) falls in love with Viola, whom she believes to be male. In 'Peter's Friends' (1992), Stephen Fry plays Peter, the owner of a stately home, who gathers together his friends from University on New Year's Eve. It has been ten years since they all gathered together for the last performance of their musical comedy review, and things and people have changed. Their differences begin to affect the celebrations. Finally, 'Much Ado About Nothing' (1993) is a star-studded rendition of the classic Shakespeare romantic comedy which sees two princes, Claudio (Robert Sean Leonard) and Benedict (Kenneth Branagh), battling to win the hearts of those they love. The object of Benedict's desire, Beatrice (Emma Thompson), acts as his sharp tongued sparring partner, while Claudio's path to true love is obstructed by the evil meddling of the embittered Don Juan (Keanu Reeves). |
