Description: |
Box set containing four classic movies starring John Wayne. In 'The Alamo' (1960), a group of 187 Americans, led by Colonels William Travis (Laurence Harvey), Davey Crockett (Wayne) and Jim Bowie (Richard Widmark) battle to hold off Santa Anna's army of 7,000. In 'The Horse Soldiers' (1959), Wayne plays hardbitten Union Cavalry Colonel Marlowe, who teams up with a pacifist doctor (William Holden) in the Civil War. Together with a feisty Southern belle (Constance Towers), the pair lead a cavalry patrol on a mission 300 miles into Confederate territory, in an attempt to destroy a railroad junction and choke off vital supply lines. In 'Cast a Giant Shadow' (1966), American Jew and war veteran David 'Mickey' Marcus (Kirk Douglas) involves himself in Israel's plight by volunteering as a military advisor, thus becoming the country's first general in 2,000 years. Finally in 'Brannigan' (1975), tough Irish-American Chicago cop Brannigan (Wayne) is sent to London on the trail of a gangster. He is mystified by local customs, and finds English police procedure rather strange. |
