Description: |
Triple bill of comedy. In 'City Slickers' (1990), Mitch Robbins (Billy Crystal) is a radio ad salesman who, with his buddies Phil (Daniel Stern) and Ed (Bruno Kirby), makes an annual holiday out of some adventurous pursuit. This year the trio join a cattle drive led by the uncompromising Curly (an Oscar-winning Jack Palance), but discover life as a cowboy is every bit as tough as one would expect. Steve Martin stars in 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' (1988) as small-time con-artist Freddy Benson (Steve Martin), who invades the lucrative Riviera turf of old pro Lawrence Jamieson (Michael Caine). The latter agrees to take him on and tutor him in the methods of fleecing wealthy widows. However, it is not long before Freddy is resisting the second banana role imposed on him by Lawrence, and when a beautiful American heiress (Glenne Headly) arrives in town, the duelling scamsters agree to a contest: whoever gets their hands on her money first forces the loser to leave town for good... Danny DeVito's directorial debut 'Throw Momma From the Train' (1987) is a spoof of Hitchcock's 'Strangers on a Train'. Larry (Billy Crystal) is an embittered writing lecturer, whose wife ran off with his only completed script, claimed it as her own and became a millionaire. Owen (DeVito) is one of his students, whose life is dominated by his overbearing mother. A potentially lethal misunderstanding occurs when Owen mistakenly believes they have struck a bargain to swap murders, with Larry bumping off his mum and Owen getting rid of Larry's troublesome wife. |
