Description: |
A double bill of classic Abbott and Costello comedy capers. 'Pardon My Sarong' (1942) is Abbot and Costello's version of '40s Hollywood's slightly xenophobic view of Polynesia - with beautiful, compliant natives who worship the white god washed up on their shores. Lou and Bud are bus drivers who end up on a Polynesian island. There, they stand up to the local hard man, encourage young lovers, dance the local dance with pretty girls, are pursued romantically and, finally, end up saving the day by rescuing a sacred stone that is the village's heritage. Visually, it's a fruit bowl and the songs and comedy routines are classic Abbott and Costello. 'Who Done It?' (1942) is an Abbott and Costello romp in which they play Chick Larkin and Merv Milgrim, a pair of café workers with big dreams of writing radio whodunit programs. When they start making inroads in this field, however, things go awry. The station owner is murdered during a broadcast and they're suddenly in the frame. The first Lou and Bud film to not feature musical numbers but that only leaves more room for their comedy schtick. |
