Description: |
Collection of six musicals starring Elvis Presley. In 'Blue Hawaii' (1961), Presley stars as Chad Gates, an ex-soldier who returns home to Hawaii with three things on his mind: fun, music and girls. Chad's mother, Sarah Lee (Angela Lansbury), wants him to embark on a career in big business, but Chad has other ideas and takes a job as a tour guide. 'Girls! Girls! Girls!' (1962) sees Ross Carpenter (Presley) run a fishing boat as a hobby. He is also pursued by a throng of girls and can't decide which one he likes the most. In 'G.I. Blues' (1960), Presley plays a guitar-picking gunner who accepts a bet that he can spend the night with a cabaret dancer, hoping to use the proceeds to open a nightclub. In 'Roustabout' (1964), Presley plays Charlie Rogers, a free-wheeling motorcyclist who takes a job with Maggie Morgan's (Barbara Stanwyck) carnival when his bike breaks down. Maggie sets Charlie to work as hired muscle, but when she catches a glimpse of his rock 'n' roll talents she realises he can help out in other ways too, and soon Charlie is rockin' the carnival out of bankruptcy and into the big money. In 'King Creole' (1958), Presley stars as Danny Fisher, a juvenile delinquent who works his way up from bus boy to nightclub singer, only to fall in with a bunch of gangsters and criminals. Danny wants to do things the honest way, but mobster Maxie Fields (Walter Matthau) is determined to get the young fellow playing on his team. Finally, 'Easy Come, Easy Go' (1967) stars Presley as a navy scuba diver who believes he has found some buried treasure. |
