Description: |
Australian TV drama about the dramatic robbery of a turf accountant's shop in suburban Melbourne. A heavily armed gang bursts into a loaded bookies in Melbourne's Victoria Club in a daring and successful raid. The room is a meeting point for bookies to count up their takings on race days so the takings are high and the gang get off with an estimated 6 to 12 million dollars. The operation is smooth (and complex) enough to make the police suspect that the perps are a professional and well-rehearsed gang. This TV miniseries won high praise in its day and remains a much talked about piece of TV today. Shot in a gritty, very realistic fashion with acted out police interviews etc resembling real-life, it was an early precursor to the type of 'fake-reality' programme that has become popular since. The series is directed by Mark Joffe and stars such stalwarts of the down under scene of the day as the inimitable gruff Kiwi Bruno Lawrence. |
