Description: |
A box set of early John Wayne films in which he developed his famous screen image. In 'Rainbow Valley' (1935) government agent John Martin (Wayne) must prevent a messenger service from being ambushed by a band of renegades. This necessitates a confrontation with Galt, a gunman for hire in the pay of a seemingly respectable townsman. In 'Wings of the Wasteland' (1936) towns are fast developing and the pony express days are numbered, especially with the introduction of the stagecoach. Wayne buys a stagecoach line and in a tough race to Sacramento beats the rival stageline and wins $25,000 for a government mail contract. Whilst in 'Hell Town' (1938) cowhand Dare Rudd (Wayne) likes to gamble more than anything, and this earns him the disapproval of his socially-upstanding cousin Tom Fillmore (Johnny Mack Brown). In fact, Dare and Tom don't see eye-to-eye on anything, and seem happy to keep out of each other's way. But then Dare falls for Tom's girl, and things starts to get complicated. |
