Romantic comedy with a 'story-within-a-story' structure, based on the novel by Raymond Jean. After reading a novel aloud to her lover, Constance (Miou Miou) is inspired by the story of the heroine, who advertises her services as a reader-aloud. Her new job leads to a variety of intriguing employers, some of whom become entangled within her own life - a storyline that is interspersed with readings from famous writers including Marquis de Sade, Tolstoy, Karl Marx, Lewis Carroll and Baudelaire. The film was awarded 'Best Feature' at the 1988 Montreal World Film Festival. |
