Description: |
Box set containing six movies adapted from Stephen King novels and short stories. In 'Salem's Lot' (1979), novelist Ben Mears (David Soul), returns to the town of his childhood unaware that an ancient evil has been unleashed on the town. Sinister goings on lead Ben to believe that the answer lies with Mr Straker (James Mason), and inevitably the story wends its way to the final Good vs Evil confrontation. In 'It' (1990), a group of childhood friends must reunite to combat a mysterious threat which they had thought was long since buried. Lurking in the shadows, and preying on their innermost fears, IT prepares to strike again. In 'Storm of the Century' (1999), the inhabitants of a picturesque, sleepy little town on a small island off the coast of Maine find themselves completely cut off from the rest of the world when they are hit by the worst storm of the century. As Snow steadily buries everything familiar, terror arrives in the form of an evil stranger. As streets disappear and an eerie darkness envelops the town, a series of bizarre murders creates a nightmare of fear. With no help coming from the outside world and no end to the storm in sight, the towns folk are forced to take drastic action before it's too late. 'The Shining' is directed by Stanley Kubrick. Seeking solitude in order to write a novel, Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) takes a job as an off-season caretaker at the remote Overlook Hotel in Colorado. Eager to get started, Jack disregards warnings that the isolation drove a former caretaker mad, and moves into the massive resort with his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and son Danny (Danny Lloyd). But Danny has a supernatural gift which makes him aware of an evil lurking in the hotel, and sure enough, as winter storms cut the hotel off from civilisation, Jack gradually becomes murderously insane. In 'Rose Red' (2002), a beautiful but decrepit mansion never appears to be completed, and appears to change its shape and structure at will. Professor Joyce Reardon (Nancy Travis) decides to find out once and for all whether the notorious buiding really is haunted, and invites six people - each with a distinct paranormal skill - to join her on a psychic field trip to reawaken the estate's supposedly dormant supernatural powers. Once there, the team's efforts unleash the spirit of former owner Ellen Rimbauer (Julia Campbell), and uncover the horrifying secrets of those who lived and died there. Finally, 'The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer' (2003) is an atmospheric period thriller that follows the genesis of the famous 'Rose Red' Seattle mansion in which several people disappeared. |
