Investing in the science base and key technologies is a high priority if the UK is to remain a leader in scientific research. The fifth edition of this publication presents the Government's objectives and spending plans for science, engineering and technology (SET). The report contains a series of statements by each government department, as well as material from the Research Councils, which outline the broad framework within which research programmes and other science-related activities are being carried out. Total government investment in SET should increase in real terms by almost 11 per cent from 6.85 billion pounds in 2000-01 to 7.6 billion in 2003-04. |
