Synopsis: |
The School Teachers' Review Body makes recommendations for the level of pay and conditions of employment for teachers in England and Wales. Issues examined in its 13th report include: the teacher recruitment and retention situation, local approaches to pay, general pay matters, management allowances, leadership group pay and upper pay scales. It recommendations include: a 2.5 per cent pay rise for qualified teachers, advanced skills teachers and unqualified teachers from April 2004 and 3.25 per cent from April 2005 to August 2006, with an enhanced increase for these groups in outer London and for the starting salary of all qualified classroom teachers in inner and outer London. The Review Body also recommends that the recruitment and retention allowance scale should be abolished from April 2004, to be replaced by fixed-term payments; and that changes in pay rates should be implemented in September of each year rather than in April, with effect from September 2006. |
