Description: |
Classic double-bill. 'The Little Princess' (1939) stars Shirley Temple as young Sara Crewe, sent to boarding school by her rich and patriotic father (Ian Hunter) so he can enlist and fight in the Boer War. When he is reported killed in the fighting however, leaving Sara penniless, the school's headmistress (Mary Nash) starts treating Sara like a slave. Unable to believe her father is dead, Sara braves the cold streets of Victorian London to search for him in the military hospitals. In 'Little Lord Fauntleroy' (1936) Freddie Bartholomew plays young Cedric Erroll, the Brooklyn boy who finds out that he is the long-lost heir to a fortune in England. Sent to stay with the frosty Lord who has been looking after the trust, Cedric soon warms his heart with his good nature, while having to prove himself against the local kids in the neighborhood. |
