Synopsis: |
This report by the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council examines the issue of chloracne arising from exposure to halogenated hydrocarbons. Chloracne is a systemic disease, charactersied by potentially severe and disfiguring facial acne. Dermatological symptoms can persist for several years. The Council notes that chloracne is included on both the European Union and International Labour Organisation lists of occupational diseases, and recommends that chloracne be added to the list of prescribed diseases for which Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit is payable. |
