Synopsis: |
Homeless mentally ill people are at the extreme end of the broad spectrum of disadvantage and the provision of care is fraught with difficulties. Despite this more can and should be done. This multi-disciplinary review builds upon fieldwork at ten locations and incorporates the views and experiences of people who have first-hand knowledge of what it means to be homeless and suffer mental ill-health. It examines the relevant literature undertaken in Britain and the US over the past 20 years. Legislation and new government policy initiatives are discussed. Instances of good practice, and the findings which represent a call for action, are highlighted The report should be of particular interest to NHS managers, social services and housing departments of local authorities. |
