Description: |
The shocking history of attempts to eliminate Scotland's ancient Travelling People (the Nawken) plus descriptions of the people themselves, their history and cuture. |
Synopsis: |
In 1895 a report, which portends vocabulary later used in Germany to justify the destruction of Jews and others, examined the situation vis a vis Scotland's Travelling people. Subsequently several suggestions were put into effect, including the removal of children from families and their sending to Canada and Australia or their fostering/adopion into other non-Traveller families. Some Scottish counties did not implement the recommendations but some, like Perth, were savage and even had the support of the church. |
