Description:

Reconstruction of the murder by a peasant farmer's son of his mother, sister and brother in 19th century Normandy. Originally claiming the murder was 'God's judgement', Riviere later wrote his confessional memoirs in jail before being executed. Using local villagers to re-enact the events, the film melds re-enactment, documentary and psychological study, attempting to highlight the similarities that exist between Normandy then and now.
