Description: |
Collection of three classic period TV dramas. The first, 'Wuthering Heights' (1998), is an adaptation of Emily Bronte's classic novel. Inseparable as children, Cathy (Orla Brady) and Heathcliff (Robert Cavanah)'s devotion to each other grows into a profoundly dangerous passion as they become adults. The fates seem to conspire to force them apart, but nothing can break the bond between them that reaches beyond accepted human behaviour. When Cathy dies during childbirth Heathcliff's unfathomable heartbreak is released in monumental anger. He longs for the death that will finally reunite them together. The second, 'Moll Flanders' (1996), stars Alex Kingston and Daniel Craig in an ITV adaptation of the 18th-century novel by Daniel Defoe. The four-part mini-series tells the story of the notorious Moll (Kingston) who survives on seduction, cunning and wit. Five times married - including once to her own brother - Moll has more than her fair share of sexual adventures, but when the stock of husbands runs out she turns to a dangerous life of crime and soon becomes Britain's most wanted criminal. The third, 'Dr Zhivago' (2002), is the complete Andrew Davies adaptation of Boris Pasternak's celebrated novel. During World War One, Yuri Zhivago (Hans Matheson) studies to become a doctor in Moscow. He marries his childhood sweetheart, Tonya (Alexandra Maria Lara), but is attracted to dressmaker's daughter Lara (Keira Knightley), herself engaged to young revolutionary Pasha (Kris Marshall) while also conducting an affair with government official Komarovsky (Sam Neill). Yuri and Lara's paths cross again in the aftermath of the Bolshevik revolution, and the two begin a passionate affair. |
