Description: |
Sports drama triple. In the romantic comedy 'Bull Durham' (1988), seasoned baseball player (Kevin Costner) is assigned to coach a hot-shot newcomer (Tim Robbins). However, the new boy's concentration is diverted by baseball groupie Susan Sarandon, who picks a lover from the team every year to train in the erotic arts. A confrontation between the two coaches looms. In 'Best Shot' (1986), coach Norman Dale (Gene Hackman) attempts to exorcise some ghosts from his past by coaching a poor local basketball team into top league condition. Dennis Hopper turns in a fine performance as the town drunk with a wide knowledge of basketball whom Hackman rehabilitates into his assistant. In 'Midnight Sting' (1992), ex-con Gabriel Caine (James Wood) heads for Diggstown, a place where unofficial boxing matches are held for big prize money. Caine finds himself a contender (Louis Gossett Jnr) and bets the crooked boss of Diggstown that his man can beat ten fighters in 24 hours. Expect twists on a scale of 'The Sting' and 'Maverick'. |
