Description: |
Triple bill of comedies from legendary writer/director Woody Allen. In 'Annie Hall' (1977), neurotic comedian Alvy Singer (Allen) falls for the titular heroine (Diane Keaton), a budding singer. The two of them attempt to build a solid relationship but face problems in the form of California and their own mutual paranoia. In 'Manhattan' (1979), Isaac Davis (Allen) is a TV writer, frustrated in both career and his lovelife. An on-off affair with teenage drama student Tracy (Mariel Hemingway) is blighted by his anxiety about their age difference, whilst his attraction to the pretentious Mary (Diane Keaton) is complicated by the fact that she is already having an affair with his married friend Yale (Michael Murphy). Meanwhile, his lesbian ex-wife (Meryl Streep) prepares to dish the dirt about their marriage in a forthcoming book. In 'Hannah and Her Sisters' (1986), Hannah (Mia Farrow), a wife, mother, successful actress and linchpin to her family, is married to Elliot (Michael Caine), but Elliot is in love with Lee (Barbara Hershey), Hannah's sister. Holly (Dianne Weist), Hannah's other sister, is jealous of Hannah, whilst Mickey (Allen), Hannah's first husband, is convinced he is dying of a brain tumor. When Hannah's world is upturned by all her family's goings on, she finds she has to choose between her independence or them. |
