From a very young age, Alicia 'Ace' Anderson (Swain) became an expert Texas hold-em poker player under the tutelage of her beloved father, Seal (Madsen). Now, years after Seal's tragic death in a car accident, Ace enters medical school and finds herself struggling with the rigorous training and her worsening financial situation.
