Triple bill featuring three horror movies. 'An American Haunting' (2005) is based on real events that took place during the 1800s. Between the years 1818-1820, the Bell family of Red River, Tennessee was visited by an unknown presence that haunted the family. What started as small sounds around the farm and the sighting of a black, yellow-eyed wolf escalated into physical brutality against certain family members. Fearing that the haunting was caused by a local woman who had been branded a witch, the Bells tried desperately to find ways of undoing what they thought to be the woman's curse, presumably placed upon the family in retaliation for a land dispute. Despite their efforts the attacks escalated. It was not until a manuscript of the local schoolteacher, who lived on the property during the disturbance, was found in 1998 that the horrifying and shocking answer to what caused this haunting would finally be unveiled. In 'Fragile' (2005) The Mercy Falls Children's Hospital is about to close its doors for good. But the closing process is taking longer than expected - a railroad accident has left the local hospitals without beds. Amy (Calista Flockhart), a young nurse, is sent to help out. But the children are nervous and afraid, because this hospital holds a secret. To discover it and protect the kids, Amy must face up to everything: the rest of the hospital staff who refuse to accept the obvious, her own fears, and the truth. In 'The Gift' (2000) Angie Wilson (Cate Blanchett) has a gift of psychic powers and uses this gift to support her family by reading the cards to neighbours wanting to know what the future will hold for them. When the beautiful and sexy Jessica King (Katie Holmes) goes missing, Annie is haunted by visions of her bound and tortured body. A murder investigation is launched but the police are reluctant to use Annie for their help. But a shortage of leads forces them to call on Annie's powers for help. She tries to help through the cards but cannot picture the killer. At the same time her violent neighbour Donnie Barksdale has been threatening her and her kids, as his wife has been visiting Annie for help. Donnie also owns the lake where Jessica was found murdered, making him the prime suspect in the murder case. |
