Description: |
Triple bill of football dramas. In 'Goal!' (2005), when Santiago Munez (Becker) crossed the Mexican border into America at the age of 10, he had two things in his possession: his football and a tattered picture of the World Cup. Working menial jobs while growing up in Los Angeles, Santiago's passion was playing football. When Brit Glen Foy (Stephen Dillane), an amiable former football player and sometime scout spots Santiago at a local match, he recognises a deft, fast and brave footballer - the kind of talent that the English Premier League club, Newcastle United, is hungry for. In 'Goal II - Living the Dream' (2007), Real Madrid beckons for the Toon Army's favourite player, Santiago Munez (Becker). While his fiance Roz (Anna Friel) plans their wedding in Newcastle, he realises every footballer's dream and gets to wear the legendary white shirt alongside David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane and Raul. Santiago basks in the glory, the acclaim and the money, only for this illusion of happiness to be shattered as he discovers the ugly face of success and begins to lose his career, his friends and most importantly, Roz. Finally, in 'Goal! III - Taking on the World' (2009), Kuno Backer Santiago finds himself pitted against his best friends, Real Madrid team-mates and England players Charlie Braithwaite (Leo Gregory) and Liam Adams (JJ Feild) in the hope of winning the sport's ultimate prize at the 2006 FIFA World Cup Finals in Germany. Meanwhile, Liam must finally face up to his responsibilities as an adult, both on and off the field of play. Nick Moran and Tamer Hassan co-star. |
