The central aim of the Effective Teaching Series is to address the two key reasons why educational reform has difficulty in impacting directly on teaching behaviour and standards of student learning. In this second book of the series, "The Constructivist Classroom", Creemers offers up the more enlightened approach that states that learning is a process of active knowledge construction. The implication is therefore that learners are not passive consumers but are considered to be active learners who participate in educational arrangements and regulate their learning processes. In his analysis the author deals with: multiple outcomes of education as a criterion for effectiveness; a combination of traditional learning and new learning; a combination of effective instruction and new ways of teaching; conditions at school level for effectiveness constructivist instruction; creating educational improvement and creating effective constructivist classrooms in schools.
