When literary reviewer Richard (Adrian Lester) and his long-time girlfriend Lelia (Jodhi May) meet Sylvie Lavigne (Anamaria Marinca) at a party, she comes across as a quiet, barely noticeable woman who is out of her depth in a social situation.
