Description: |
Darkly comic psychological thriller. Self-proclaimed genius and all round nasty piece of work Eli Michaelson (Rickman) has just been awarded the Nobel Prize for his pioneering work in chemistry. Meanwhile his son Barkley (Bryan Greenberg) is struggling with his PhD thesis on cannibalism, and his long-suffering wife Sarah (Mary Steenburgen), a renowned forensic psychiatrist, is rapidly becoming the object of lust for her former colleague, detective Max Mariner (Bill Pullman). On the eve of the Nobel Prize ceremony, Barkley is kidnapped for a $2 million ransom - the same amount as the prize money awarded to Eli. When Eli refuses to pay it, a tangled tale of lust, betrayal and revenge unfolds. |
