Description: |
Collection of four westerns. In 'The Desperate Trail' (1994), Linda Fiorentino stars as Sarah O'Rourke, a woman about to be hanged by Marshall Speakes (Sam Elliott). On the way to the gallows she escapes but is then held up by charming con-man, Jack Cooper (Craig Sheffer). It's not long before the pair buddy up and set about doing a bank job. Speakes, however, is on their trail with a vengeful posse. In 'Jeremiah Johnson' (1972), Robert Redford stars in the title role as a man who turns his back on civilisation in 1850 to learn a new way of survival in the Utah mountains. He soon becomes part of the wildlife and his new lifestyle brings many rewards, until some hostile Native Americans start to stir up trouble. In 'The Cowboys' (1971), an ageing rancher (John Wayne) is forced to hire eleven schoolboys to help him herd his cattle to market when his regular hands run off to join a goldrush. Along the way the boys are easy prey for villains, but they soon become hardened killers. Finally, in 'Wild Wild West' (1999), James West (Will Smith) is a US special official, charged with tracking down a confederate officer named McGrath (Ted Levine), whom the government believes is illegally stockpiling weapons. Teaming up with fellow agent Artemus Gordon (Kevin Kline), the search leads them to New Orleans, where they discover that the true villain is the evil and sinister Dr Arliss Loveless (Kenneth Branagh). |
