On 10 June 2009, the Office of Fair Trading referred the anticipated merger of Ticketmaster Entertainment, Inc and Live Nation, Inc to the Competition Commission for investigation and report. Live Nation, Inc is principally a promoter of live music events and owner/operator of live music venues. Ticketmaster Entertainment, Inc is principally a ticket agent, and sells many tickets on behalf of live music promoters and venue promoters. The merger between the two is a US-led transaction but has implications for the activities of both companies in many geographic markets around the world, including the UK. The US Department of Justice is investigating the implications of the merger in the USA. |
