Synopsis: |
The Department of the Environment requires up-to-date information on the legislation, procedures and policies for securing supplies of minerals, and controlling mineral working and its effects in the European Union, in order to assess the implications and lessons for planning in England and Wales, and because of potential transboundary trade in some minerals. This report aims to identify the policy framework and organizational structures within which mineral planning is undertaken in the EU, and to obtain information on a range of aspects of minerals development, control of its effects and rehabilitation of worked land. Considerable data was collected during the background research, and this material is collated in a standard format for each country, and published in a separate technical report, ""Minerals Planning Policy and Supply Practices: Technical Appendices". |
